Evan Peters to Play Jeffrey Dahmer in Ryan Murphy’s Netflix Series ‘Monster’

Evan Peters is set to play one of the most notorious killers in American history for his latest role. Deadline reports that Peters has been cast as Jeffrey Dahmer in Ryan Murphy‘s upcoming Netflix limited series, Monster: The The Jeffrey Dahmer StoryHe’s joined by co-stars Niecy Nash, Penelope Ann Miller, Shaun J. Brown, Colin Ford and the previously announced Richard Jenkins.

The new series will tell Dahmer’s story from the perspective of his victims, and is expected to dive “deeply into the police incompetence and apathy that allowed the Wisconsin native to go on a multiyear killing spree.” Between 1978 and 1991, Dahmer raped, murdered, and dismembered nearly 20 victims, all boys and men, per People. While he was eventually caught, convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison, he was killed by a fellow inmate in 1994.

Monster will show how Dahmer managed to evade capture and avoid suspicion for so long, including at “at least 10 instances where [he] was almost apprehended but ultimately let go.” Murphy’s upcoming drama will also examine how Dahmer’s white privilege allowed him to slip by law enforcement as “a clean-cut, good-looking white guy.”

Peters’ latest role comes after multiple collaborations with Murphy, including nearly every season of American Horror Story and the ballroom drama Pose. In a 2018 interview with GQ, the actor explained why he enjoys working with Murphy.  “I trust him and his vision and his writing and directing and sort of him overseeing everything,” Peters said. “I know there’s a bigger plan, and so I always throw it up to him, and I say, ‘I’m in your hands. Let’s do this. Whatever you need me to do.'”

Aside from his work with Murphy, Peters has also appeared in shows like One Tree Hill, Parenthood and WandaVision, and in films like X-Men: Apocalypse and American Animals. Next up, he’s set to star in the HBO series Mare of Easttown.
