Hulu And Marvel’s ‘M.O.D.O.K.’ Adds Jon Hamm As Iron Man, More

Iron Man is dead; long live Iron Man. In a surprise announcement at the end of Hulu’s WonderCon@Home panel today for their upcoming adult animated series Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., the streamer introduced four additional voice actors to the show: Jon Hamm as Iron Man; Whoopi Goldberg as Poundcakes; Nathan Fillion as Wonder Man; and Bill Hader as both Angar the Screamer, and The Leader.

Starring Patton Oswalt as M.O.D.O.K. (Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing), essentially a flying head in a chair with tiny arms and legs, the series takes a satirical, Robot Chicken-esque view of the Marvel Universe. While the villain dreams of someday ruling the world with his evil organization A.I.M. (Advanced Idea Mechanics), he also has to deal with his home life, including two wild kids and a crumbling marriage.

Hamm is best known for his role on Mad Men, and here will play M.O.D.O.K.’s nemesis, Iron Man, who you may remember was played by Robert Downey, Jr. in the Marvel movies.

Fillion, who has appeared on Firefly, Castle, and The Rookie will be portraying actor turned superhero Wonder Man, in a sneaky nod to an Easter egg from Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, which briefly showed off a poster of Fillion in live action as the character.

Goldberg, people are probably pretty well aware of, though she’s been building back the nerd cred she got from starring in Star Trek: The Next Generation recently with her role on The Stand, and now as Poundcakes, a wrestler with super-strength. In a weird coincidence, in the comics Poundcakes got her powers from a character called The Power Broker; and this past week on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Goldberg’s fellow The View host Sara Haines appeared in the episode, which also introduced The Power Broker. Are the two shows connected??? No.

Last but not least is Barry star Bill Hader in two roles: Angar the Screamer; and The Leader. Angar actually appeared on one episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and his powers are exactly what you’d expect: he has a sonic scream. The super-smart Leader, meanwhile, is the Hulk’s arch-enemy, and probably a good foil for M.O.D.O.K., who likes to think of himself as the smartest villain in the Marvel Universe.

Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. also stars Melissa Fumero, Aimee Garcia Ben Schwartz, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Beck Bennett, Jon Daly and Sam Richardson. It was created and written by executive producers Jordan Blum and Patton Oswalt. Brett Crawley, Robert Maitia, Grant Gish, Joe Quesada, Karim Zreik and Jeph Loeb also serve as executive producers. All 10 episodes will premiere May 10 on Hulu.
