We may be entering Spring, but one Netflix original is going to make you rethink all of those vacation plans. This March the streaming giant unveiled Who Killed Sara?, a tense mystery all about a dead teenage girl, parasailing gone wrong, a corrupt family, and one inmate looking for revenge.

If you spent this past weekend binge-watching Who Killed Sara? you’re not alone. The new series has topped Netflix’s list of the Top 10 Shows and Movies in the United States. Wondering where you can find all of those gorgeous locations? Here’s what we know about Who Killed Sara?’s filming locations.

Where Was Who Killed Sara? Filmed?

The short answer is “Mexico.” But you’ve probably already figured that out. Who Killed Sara? is proudly a Mexican production with largely Mexican actors. But what part of Mexico are we talking?

According to a representative from Netflix, most of the series was filmed in Mexico City. Since Netflix moved its Latin America offices to Mexico City, that makes sense. The series also features several sweeping shots of the capital. A family as wealthy as the Lazcano family would likely have some prominent big-city connections.

But enough about glitz and poker. Where were Who Killed Sara?‘s gorgeous lake scenes filmed? That would be Valle de Bravo, Mexico. A town southwest of Mexico City, it’s located on the shore of Lake Avándaro. Valle de Bravo is known across the country as a tourist destination. Based on the sets of Who Killed Sara?, it’s not difficult to understand why. That lake is absolutely gorgeous. The town is also known for hosting the world-famous Circuito Avandaro auto racing event and the rock festiva Festival de rock y Ruedas.

Even though you may have already finished Who Killed Sara? that doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to that beautiful and lavish scenery just yet. Shortly after its first season premiered, Netflix announced the Mexican drama would release Season 2 on Wednesday, May 19. If you’re vaccinated, that may give you enough time to experience this paradise for yourself between now and Who Killed Sara?‘s return.
