The SAG Awards made history last night. The late Chadwick Boseman, who was honored with an unprecedented four nominations, earned a posthumous win for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, but his co-star Viola Davis made the night even more memorable with her own award for Best Female Actor in a Leading Role in a Motion Picture — marking the first time two lead Black film actors have both won the award in the same year.
The awards also honored Daniel Kaluuya for his role in Judas and the Black Messiah and Youn Yuh-Jung for her role in Minari, marking the first year in the history of the SAG Awards that four actors of color have received the top film awards.
While Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom took home its fair share of SAG Awards, over in the TV category, awards season favorites Schitt’s Creek and The Crown continued their winning streak. Both Gillian Anderson and Catherine O’Hara took home awards for Best Female Actor, and The Crown earned Best Ensemble in a Drama Series.
Since the SAG Awards were pre-taped, the winners already knew their fate a few days before the awards show aired. But if you missed out on the telecast last night, we’ve got you covered.
