Tom Holland to Lead Apple TV+’s Mental Illness Drama ‘The Crowded Room’

After last month’s release of Cherry, Tom Holland is teaming up with Apple TV+ once again, this time on a project from Academy Award-winner Akiva Goldsman. Holland is set to star in A Crowded Room, an upcoming seasonal anthology series from the Beautiful Mind writer.

According to Apple, the “gripping” new series “will explore the true and inspirational stories of those who have struggled, and learned to successfully live with, mental illness.” The first season, which will consist of 10 episodes, is a thriller inspired by the Daniel Keyes biography “The Minds of Billy Milligan.”

The 1981 non-fiction book tells the story of Milligan, a man who made history as the first person in the U.S. to be acquitted of a major crime due to multiple-personality disorder, or Dissociative Identity Disorder as it’s known today.

Holland will star as Milligan and serve as executive producer with Goldsman. The Crowded Room will also be executive produced by Alexandra Milchan for EMJAG Productions and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer.

The Crowded Room marks Holland’s second TV appearance. While the actor is widely known for his Peter Parker/Spider-Man roles and his roles in films like The Lost City of Z, In the Heart of the Sea, Pixar’s Onward, and The Devil All the Time, he had a brief TV stint with 2015’s Wolf Hall, in which he played Gregory Cromwell. Fans can expect to see Holland next in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the latest film in the superhero franchise.

Goldsman is known for his work on films like Deep Blue Sea, Cinderella ManMr. & Mrs. Smith, The Da Vinci Code, I Am  Legend, and multiple Paranormal Activity installments. He’s also worked on shows like Fringe, Underground and Star Trek: Discovery.
