Is ‘Shrek’ On Netflix? Here’s Where To Watch ‘Shrek’ on Streaming

Last month, when the Netflix UK & Ireland account tweeted that Shrek was coming to Netflix, millennials were understandably excited.

That lime green ogre and his hilarious talking donkey are our entire childhoods, OK? I could easily carry on an entire conversation using nothing but Shrek quotes: “Ogres are like onions,” “Pick number three, my lord!” “That is a nice boulder,” and so on.

OK, it wouldn’t be a very coherent conversation, but still.

But when Shrek lovers ran to Netflix in April, searching for that beloved Academy Award-winning 2001 animated comedy featuring the voices of Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy, many were disappointed.

So what’s the deal? Is Shrek on Netflix? Is Shrek coming to Netflix in 2021?

Read on to find out, and to get all of the information on where to stream Shrek.

Is Shrek on Netflix?

It depends on where you live. If you live in the U.K. or Ireland, good news: Shrek is on Netflix! If you live in the U.S., or elsewhere, bad news: Shrek is not on Netflix.

If you heard the news that Shrek was coming to Netflix in April, it was probably on a U.K. website. Unfortunately, while Shrek did come to Netflix U.K. on April 1, it did not come to Netflix U.S. Darn it.

When is Shrek coming to Netflix U.S.?

Good question. Unfortunately, the answer is both “We don’t know,” and “Not this month.” Netflix U.S. announces what titles it will be adding a month at a time, and, I’m sorry to say that Shrek was not on the list of titles coming to Netflix in April.

However, if you’re craving Shrek content and you absolutely insist on using Netflix to get it, you do have some options. Shrek the Musical—a filmed version of the 2008 Tony-nominated Broadway production, which, by the way, is very good—is streaming on Netflix. Dreamwork’s Shrek spin-off film, Puss in Boots, is also streaming on Netflix, as are two spin-off series: Shrek’s Swamp Stories and Spooky Stories.

But if you’re craving that OG ogre realness, read on to find out where to stream Shrek (2001).

Is Shrek streaming anywhere?

Yes! The good news for those of us in the U.S. is that you can watch both Shrek and Shrek 2 streaming free on Hulu. Huzzah!

And if you don’t have a Hulu account, you can always rent or buy Shrek on a digital platform such as iTunes, Vudu, YouTube, Google Play, or wherever you prefer to buy and rent digital content. Let’s stay up all night watching and rewatching Shrek, and in the morning, I’m making waffles.
