Are ‘9-1-1’ and ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Airing New Episodes Tonight?

If you did happen to watch the Academy Awards this year, then you undoubtedly found yourself reminded you need to keep an eye on what Angela Bassett is up to… Which reminds all of us that Bassett, an Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner, continues to star in the primetime emergency drama series, 9-1-1, as LAPD patrol sergeant Athena Grant. Both her show and 9-1-1: Lone Star have new episodes this Monday night.

9-1-1 and the Lone Star spinoff were created by the trio of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear to capitalize on our undeniable and insatiable need to slow down when we pass a car crash on the highway and imagine ourselves as the first-responder heroes. It’s not quite emergency porn, although the series do thrive on responding to emergencies — and on the love lives of those who heed the call, from the paramedics and firefighters to the patrol officers and the dispatchers.

Co-stars Bassett and Peter Krause serve as executive producers on 9-1-1, while Lone Star‘s lone star, Rob Lowe, serves in a similar capacity on the spinoff.

Can I Get a 9-1-1 Recap?

Last week in Los Angeles, the big emergency of “Blindsided” revolved around a multi-car pileup caused by a drunk woman driving the wrong way on the highway. Her child made the 911 call!

Meanwhile, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) went into childbirth labor, somehow at the same time Chimney’s (Kenneth Choi) brother got himself stuck in a rollover accident. And Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thoms) found themselves on opposite sides when it came to giving up their foster child after the child’s mother wanted her back.

Can I Get a 9-1-1: Lone Star Recap?

Meanwhile in Austin (looking a little bit too much like LA, but who’s noticing), the “Saving Grace” episode reminded us that a Judd (Jim Parrack) was involved in a head-on collision as a teen in 1995 that killed his friend, then flashed forward (or back a little less) to 2012, when Judd’s firefighting team responded to a call involving his friend’s mother. Through a suicide hotline, Judd found Grace (Sierra McClain) quite literally. Lit-er-al-ly. If that’s not enough set up, in present-day, Grace and Judd almost died in a hit-and-run when their truck was forced off a bridge into a lake. Judd’s team rescued them, but Grace might not remember everything, or walk. Oh, and by the way, she’s pregnant!
