Will There Be A ‘Without Remorse 2’? What To Know About the ‘Rainbow Six’ Sequel

Warning: This article contains Without Remorse spoilers. Save it until after you’ve watched the film!

Without Remorse on Amazon Prime doesn’t exactly have a happy ending, but it does suggest that viewers have not seen the last of John Kelly—now known as John Clark. No doubt the first question on your mind when you finish the movie will be: So when is Without Remorse 2 coming out?

Tom Clancy fans know that the author did write a second book about John Clark, the character played by Michael B. Jordan in Without Remorse. The book, Rainbow Six, was published in 1998, and tells the story of John Clark and a secret counter-terrorist organization that he founds called Rainbow.

Though the movie made quite a few changes from the book, the Without Remorse ending, paired with the Without Remorse after-credits scene, certainly seems to set up a Rainbow Six movie.

So what does this mean for a Without Remorse sequel? Will Michael B. Jordan return to the Tom Clancy universe? Here’s what we know.

What is the Without Remorse ending explained?

After he realizes his team was never meant to survive the mission to extract the bad guy Russian operative Victor Rykov (Brett Gelman), John Kelly fakes his own death. He kidnaps Secretary of Defense Thomas Clay (Guy Pearce), who he suspects is in on the conspiracy. John secretly records a confession from Clay, who admits that he was involved in a plot to start a world war to give the U.S. a common enemy—Russia—so that everyone would stop fighting amongst themselves.

John goes ahead and drowns Clay by driving their car into the river. John is rescued by a scuba diver, while Clay dies. Then John Kelly assumes a new identity: John Clark.

Is there a Without Remorse after-credits scene?

Yes. If you wait for about two minutes into the credits, you’ll be treated to a bonus scene in which John—now looking even better in some glasses—announces to the CIA’s Robert Ritter (Jamie Bell) that he’s putting together “a multinational counterterrorist team.” He intends to take his proposal to the President of the United States. Oh, and one last thing—he’s calling the team Rainbow. Dun dun dun.

Will there be a Without Remorse 2, aka Rainbow Six? What we know about a Without Remorse sequel:

The Rainbow Six movie might be happening—but it’s not an absolute certainty.

According to a September 2018 report from Variety, Paramount Pictures tapped Michael B. Jordan for a two-movie deal in the Tom Clancy universe. The first movie, Without Remorse, is the one you just watched on Amazon. The second, Rainbow Six, is supposed to be based on Clancy’s second novel focused on John Clark of the same name.

However, just because Jordan signed on for two movies back in 2018, that doesn’t mean the Rainbow Six movie is a sure thing. A lot has changed in the past three years, including a global pandemic that temporarily halted film productions, and prompted Paramount to sell Without Remorse to Amazon Prime, rather than release the film in theaters—meaning the studio lost out on box office profits.

In interviews, Jordan has been careful to say that the Rainbow Six movie is not a guarantee.

“See, to be perfectly honest, I haven’t thought about it,” Jordan told IGN. “Just I haven’t. One of the hard things as a creative, to do when you’re making a movie that could potentially be another one, is to start thinking about the second one while you’re still finishing the first one. So I think, just really trying to focus on the movie as a standalone, and hopefully, it’s strong enough to hold its own weight, that people will want to see what Kelly wants to do in the future.”

So far, no writer or directors have been officially attached to a Rainbow Six movie. But if Without Remorse does well, then there’s a good chance you’ll see more from John Clark.
