Will There Be A Season 2 Of ‘The Duchess’ On Netflix?

The Duchess is a show that is just as realistic as Katherine’s (Katherine Ryan) single mother struggles. The Netflix original British dramedy, which was also created by comedian Ryan, first debuted on the platform last year to mixed reviews. Likely due to the streaming world’s recent fascination with British shows such as period dramas Bridgerton and The Queen’s Gambit, viewers have been eager to find out what The Duchess is all about.

In the series, Katherine is a single mother to her precocious 9 year-old daughter Olive (Katy Byrne), and she’s not afraid to be a bold and bawdy mum, as the sweatshirt she wears indicates. Katherine very much enjoys being Olive’s mom and cherishes how close they are. Katherine also owns a pottery business where she creates art that is shaped like tasteful naked female bodies.

“When these situations are clearly forced for comedy reasons, we start to turn away from a show.” Decider’s Joel Keller wrote in his review of The Duchess when the show first premiered. He added, “However, Ryan has created a show for herself that fits her quite well, so as things go along her character might ease up into someone we’ll actually like.”

Whether you’ve been a fan since the series first premiered or you just stumbled upon it on streaming, here’s what you need to know about The Duchess Season 2 and The Duchess on Netflix.

HAS THE DUCHESS BEEN RENEWED FOR SEASON 2?

Unfortunately, no. The series has been canceled after just one season.

WILL THE DUCHESS SEASON 2 BE ON NETFLIX?

Right now, there’s just the one season of The Duchess on Netflix, so don’t binge it too quickly!

WHY DID NETFLIX CANCEL THE DUCHESS?

We don’t have great news about Season 2 of The Duchess because Netflix recently canceled the series after just one season, citing low viewership.

Ryan revealed the news on Vicky Pattison’s The Secret To… podcast. “[Netflix] didn’t want to make any more, not enough people watched it,” she said. “I think something like 10 million people watched it in 28 days and that wasn’t enough,” she said. “But also, I’m not terribly sad about it. I feel like it’s a whole lot of work, a whole lot of time to make a sitcom. I was so grateful to able to make it, but I think it speaks for itself. I kind of like the way it ended.”

WHO STARS IN THE DUCHESS?

The Duchess stars Katherine Ryan as Katherine, Rory Keenan as Shep, Katy Byrne as Olive, Steen Raskopoulos as Evan, Michelle de Swarte as Bev, Sophie Fletcher as Jane, and Doon Mackichan as Cheryl. There have been a number of recurring and guest stars on the show as well.
