If you’re in the mood to watch a very silly, very low-budget film starring an A-list Hollywood actor, then you should know that the Chloe Grace Moretz fantasy action film, Shadow in the Cloud, is coming to Hulu very soon.
After premiering at the 2020 Toronto Film Festival last fall, Shadow in the Cloud released on digital in January, skipping theaters thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is not without controversy—the original script comes from screenwriter Max Landis, who has been accused of emotional and sexual abuse by at least eight women. But director Roseanne Liang and Moretz have both tried to distance the film from Landis as much as possible—Liang rewrote the script, and now shares screenwriting credit with Landis, and Landis was removed as a producer.
That said, the film still has that brand of Landis absurdity: Moretz stars as a female WWII pilot traveling on a warplane with a crew of sexist men, supposedly carrying top-secret documents. Then the plane is attacked by CGI gremlins, and the rest is greenscreen history.
