‘When Calls the Heart’ Renewed for Season 9

Elizabeth Thornton’s adventure isn’t coming to an end anytime soon. When Calls the Heart is officially returning for another season, series star Erin Krakow announced this weekend. Season 9 of the Hallmark Channel hit will premiere sometime in 2022 after the latest season wrapped up yesterday.

“Hey hearties! I’ve got some big news,” Krakow, who stars as schoolteacher Elizabeth, teased in yesterday’s announcement. “Now I’m just as sad as you are  that this season of When Calls the Heart is over, but we’ll be returning next year for another all-new season.”

She continued, “So what’s next for Elizabeth and the rest of Hope Valley? We’ve got so many great new stories to share, and I can’t wait for you to find out.”

When Calls the Heart follows a young teacher (Krakow) who moves from her home in the city to take a job in a small mining town. There, she has to acclimate to an entirely different world than the high society life she’s accustomed to. The series also stars Daniel Lissing as Jack Thornton, Jack Wagner as Bill Avery, Martin Cummins as Henry Gowen, Pascale Hutton as Rosemary LeVeaux Coulter, Kavan Smith as Leland Coulter, and more. Lori Loughlin also starred in the series for five seasons.

“We are proud to have When Calls the Heart as a central part of our programming,” Michelle Vicary, EVP of Programming at Crown Media Family Networks, said in a statement per TV Line. “It continues to captivate audiences with its amazing cast and storylines of love, community and optimism, and we are excited to continue the journey in Hope Valley for Season 9 …The series has become appointment viewing on a highly competitive Sunday night [and] continues to climb in ratings year-after-year and is one of the top-rated shows in cable!”

The series first premiered on Hallmark Channel in 2014, and has emerged as a top series over the years, with its Season 8 premiere pulling in three million total viewers according to Nielsen, per Deadline.

While Hallmark didn’t share a specific premiere date for When Calls the Heart Season 9, previous seasons have dropped in February, so it’s possible we could see the new season in less than a year. Keep checking back for news on the latest season of When Calls the Heart.
