NBC New Fall Schedule: ‘Law & Order,’ ‘The Voice,’ and so Much ‘Chicago’

NBC has unveiled their lineup for the 2021-2022 fall season, which features a slew of Law & Order series, the return of the Chicago saga, and a handful of new series. The new lineup gives producer Dick Wolf two full nights of shows on the schedule, thanks to Chicago and Law & Order.

Wednesday nights will be dedicated to Chicago, namely Chicago MedChicago Fire, and Chicago P.DThursdays will go to the Law & Order branch, with Law & Order: SVU returning for Season 23, a second season of Law & Order: Organized Crime, and a new addition to the franchise, Law & Order: For the Defense.

Instead of producing two cycles of The Voice next season, NBC has opted to drop down to just one. Ariana Grande is set to replace Nick Jonas as a host on the upcoming Season 21 of the reality competition.

NBC has taken a notable turn away from comedy in the upcoming season, though in a conference call with the press, NBC noted that their commitment to comedy series was still strong.

“There’s obviously a long history and legacy of comedies that NBC — we want to honor that,” said Susan Rovner, chairman of entertainment content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “We love our comedies, and we do want to give them the best platform for success. We do believe holding them for mid-season and using the platforms of the Olympics and the Super Bowl is going to do that.”

In 2021, NBC will broadcast the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, selecting Brooklyn Nine-Nine for the prime slot right after the events. Brooklyn Nine-Nine will end after its eighth season on NBC.

As for new comedy series, which will premiere at a later date, NBC has picked up American Auto and Grand Crew.
