Two ‘365 Days’ Sequels Are Coming to Netflix

Netflix‘s controversial erotic thriller 365 Days is returning to the streamer with two upcoming sequels, Deadline reports. The steamy Polish film, which first landed on Netflix last summer, follows the story of a young woman who is held captive and given one year to fall in love with a Sicilian gangster.

The 365 Days sequels will follow the storyline of the book trilogy by author Blanka Lipińska that inspired the first movie. Lipińska, who co-wrote the 365 Days script with Mojca Tirs, will reunite with her writing partner and will be joined by Tomasz Mandes for the next two movies. According to Deadline, the plot of the next film installments “is likely to deviate from those texts,” so it’s possible some of the more “controversial content” could be toned down for the screen.

365 Days was one of our most popular films for our members in 2020,” Netflix’s Łukasz Kluskiewicz, Content Acquisition Manager of films for CEE and Poland, told Deadline. “We’re working closely with Blanka Lipinska, the author of the ‘365 Days’ trilogy of books and writer of the film, to continue Laura and Massimo’s story on screen. Their journey together is full of many twists and turns as our characters continue to grow and learn more about themselves.”

Despite backlash from fans who saw the movie as glorifying sexual assault and Stockholm Syndrome, Netflix is moving ahead with the two new installments. Although the movie was widely criticized for glamorizing kidnapping and sex trafficking, it also proved to be popular with Netflix viewers, consistently landing in the streamer’s Top 10 list of most-watched movies and films.

While the first 365 Days film was acquired by Netflix, the next two will be made by the streamer and the original producers. As Deadline points out, Netflix’s involvement could mean “a more cautious approach” to the hot-button themes in the first film.

Original cast members Michele Morrone and Anna-Maria Sieklucka are set to return for the next two films along with Magdalena Lamparska. Directors Barbara Białowąs and Tomasz Mandes are also coming back for the sequels. But Netflix is shaking things up a little with a new addition: Simone Susinna, an Italian model and actor who will be joining the 365 Days trilogy as a new character named Nacho.

“I’m hugely honored that the remaining two parts of my ‘365 Days’ trilogy – ‘This Day’ and ‘Next 365 Days’ will be brought to life on screen by Netflix,” Lipińska said. “I’m so excited to show fans of my novels all over the world this fresh look at the characters and to continue Laura and Massimo’s story.”

Netflix’s new 365 Days movies are shooting back to back, and both set to premiere in 2022.
