We may have bid goodbye to Big Bang Theory back in 2019, but the spinoff series Young Sheldon is still going strong. The Chuck Lorre sitcom tells the origin story of Sheldon Cooper, the character first portrayed as an adult by Jim Parsons. In Young Sheldon, Iain Armitage takes over the part, putting his own spin on the bright young boy as a science-loving kid growing up in East Texas.
When the series first premiered on CBS in 2017, Decider’s Joel Keller praised the “warm” show for having “a lot of heart,” writing, “Considering we already like the characters in Young Sheldon, a refinement of the funny will make it even better.”
Four years later and Young Sheldon is still delighting fans, having just wrapped up Season 4 on CBS. But will the hit show continue telling Sheldon’s story? Are we getting Young Sheldon Season 5?

WILL THERE BE A SEASON 5 OF YOUNG SHELDON?
Yes, there will be a fifth season of Young Sheldon. And in even better news for fans of the sitcom, CBS has renewed Young Sheldon for three more seasons after Season 4, which would bring the show up to Season 7 and would keep it on air until at least 2024.
Kelly Kahl, CBS Entertainment president, first shared the renewal news in March. “The humor, warmth and heart exuded by the Cooper family is an undeniable hook for the millions of fans who tune in each week. We’re excited to see what the next three seasons have in store for a slightly older Sheldon and all the Coopers,” she said.
WHO WILL STAR IN THE YOUNG SHELDON SEASON 5 CAST?
While we don’t have a finalized cast list for Young Sheldon Season 5, we can expect the titular star of the show, Iain Armitage, to return, along with Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord, and Matt Hobby. Stay tuned for any exciting Season 5 cast additions.
WHEN WILL YOUNG SHELDON SEASON 5 PREMIERE?
We likely won’t see Young Sheldon Season 5 until sometime later this year or next year. CBS hasn’t set an official premiere date yet, but Variety reports that the fifth season will air during the 2021-2022 broadcast TV season.

The Young Sheldon Season 4 finale aired last night, but if you missed it, it’s easy to catch up. You can watch Young Sheldon with a valid cable login on the CBS website — although select episodes from Season 4 are available to stream for free.
