‘Clarice’ & ‘SEAL Team’ In Talks To Move From CBS To Paramount+

If SEAL Team and Clarice are renewed for the 2021-22 season, both shows may become Paramount+ originals, making the short jump from CBS to the platform.

The two dramas, which are produced by CBS Studios, are in talks to move to Paramount+ next season, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The ViacomCBS streaming platform continues its quest to bolster its catalog of original shows and the decision could increase traffic to the subscription service.

CBS has already renewed 9 hour-long dramas and ordered four new shows for the 2021-22 season, which means the network is quite booked. While Clarice would become a Paramount+ exclusive, SEAL Team could begin its fifth season with a handful of episodes on CBS in the fall before moving to Paramount+ for the remainder of its run.

The Silence of the Lambs sequel Clarice, which stars Rebecca Breeds as FBI agent Clarice Starling, has struggled with network restrictions while trying to explore some of the darkest elements of the tale. Showrunners Jenny Lumet and Alex Kurtzman were convinced to develop the series for a broadcast network over a streaming outlet by CBS chief creative officer and Showtime CEO David Nevins.

Kurtzman and Lumet executive produce the show, which has averaged around 6.1 million viewers over its first season, with Elizabeth Klaviter and Heather Kadin.

SEAL Team has averaged 6.5 million viewers with a week of delayed viewing for all four seasons on CBS, with its current season slated to end on May 26. David Boreanaz stars in the series which follows a SEAL unit as they tackle dangerous missions around the world.

The show, which was created by Benjamin Cavell, is executive produced by Spencer Hudnut, Christopher Chulack, Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly and Boreanaz.

An official decision has not yet been made on the future of both shows.
