Jenna Ortega Cast as Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton’s Netflix Series

Get ready to meet the creepiest and kookiest, mysterious and spookiest new member of the Addams Family. Variety reports that Netflix has tapped Jenna Ortega to star as Wednesday Addams in the platform’s upcoming live-action series Wednesday, which has Tim Burton attached to direct.

Wednesday was originally ordered by the streamer back in February, and is set to follow the titular daughter in her mysterious, supernaturally-infused years as a student at Nevermore Academy. The series will specifically see Wednesday attempting to master her psychic ability, preventing a major killing spree in the town, and embroiling herself in a mystery from her parents’ time in the town. And, of course, she’s got regular teenage girl drama to figure out, too.

Al Gough and Miles Millar will serve as the creators of Wednesday, which has received an eight-episode order. Burton will serve as a director and executive producer on the series, with Gough and Millar also executive producing. The project will nab executive producers Andrew Mittman, Gail Berman, and Kevin Miserocchi from the 2019 animated film Addams Family, who have been announced as EPs on the project.

The announcement marks a return for Ortega, who previously starred in Netflix series like You, Richie Rich, and the animated Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous. She’s well-known for her role as Young Jane on The CW’s Jane the Virgin, which is also streaming over on Netflix.

Outside of Netflix, Ortega has starred in Insidious: Chapter 2The Fallout, and The Babysitter: Killer Queen. Along with Wednesday, Ortega is set to star in the new installment of the Scream Franchise next year.

Stay tuned for the upcoming trailer, premiere date, and more for Netflix’s Wednesday.
