Jack Quaid to Voice Clark Kent in ‘My Adventures With Superman’ Animated Series

Actor Jack Quaid is collecting franchises like Thanos collects Infinity Stones — or more apropos of the DC universe, Steppenwolf collects Mother Boxes — as The Boys and Star Trek: Lower Decks star will be taking on the iconic role of Superman in a new animated series, My Adventures With Superman.

The kid focused, family friendly series, which snagged a two season order today from HBO Max and Cartoon Network, will focus on a twenty-something Clark Kent (Quaid), Lois Lane (Alice Lee), and best friend Jimmy Olsen as they come together as a young investigative team at the Daily Planet.

“Superman has remained one of the most iconic and beloved Super Heroes in the world,” said Amy Friedman, Head of Kids & Family Programming, Warner Bros via a release provided to Decider. “The Warner Bros. Animation team delivers a modern, relatable Clark Kent alongside a fearless, whip smart Lois Lane who are navigating the small tasks of both becoming adults and trying to save the world.”

Though this is an all-ages series, don’t expect it to skimp on story. Warner Bros. notes that the series will be serialized, and as Clark becomes the hero Metropolis — and the world — needs, and Lois becomes a star investigative journalist, the duo are “falling in love, sharing adventures, taking down bad guys, stumbling over secrets, and discovering what it means to be Superman and Lois Lane.”

“It’s been a great partnership working with Cartoon Network and HBO Max to bring more DC Super Heroes to the platform in new and creatively interesting ways” added Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios. “This is the first animated Superman series in many years and we want to tell our Superman story through the trio of Clark, Lois and Jimmy – whose relationship dynamic will allow for rich, serialized and engaging stories as we explore their lives as individuals and their journey together as friends.”

As Register notes, this isn’t the first animated Superman series, but it is the first in a while. Superman: The Animated Series ran for three seasons from 1996-2000, and the original animated serials that ran in theaters starting 1941. But since then, the Man of Steel has mostly shown up in Direct to DVD movies.

This new take is produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Sam Register (Teen Titans Go!) serves as executive producer. Jake Wyatt (Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus) and Brendan Clogher (Voltron: Legendary Defender) are on board as co-executive producers and Josie Campbell (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) as co-producer.

Given the pedigree of the staff, you can get a better sense of where they’re going, particularly when you check out the first look at Clark, Lois and Jimmy below that seems very much in line with more modern animation like the Voltron and She-Ra reboots that aired on Netflix. The logo, on the other hand, is pure throwback goodness.

No word yet on other casting or a premiere date, but expect more news come to come your way, faster than a speeding bullet.
