Woman Crush Wednesday: Melissa Fumero is Marvelous in ‘M.O.D.O.K’

The month of May is flying by, so if you’re already losing track of what day it is this week, don’t worry, we’re here to clue you in! Today we’re coming at you with another Woman Crush Wednesday to shout out those wonderful women tearing it up in all of the brand new movies and shows that should be on your watch-list now. This week, we’re celebrating an actress who has been putting out consistently great work on screens big and small for the past 15+ years, and who has helped deliver some of the most joyous and memorable moments in one of the best sitcoms of the last decade. So, without further ado, give it up for your WCW, the marvelous Melissa Fumero!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Melissa Fumero

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Fumero voices Melissa Tarleton in upcoming Hulu Original Series Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., which premieres on the platform this Friday, May 21st. The show revolves around megalomaniac villain M.O.D.O.K. (Patton Oswalt), who has been removed from his criminal organization A.I.M. after it falls into bankruptcy and is sold to the rivaling GRUMBL. This, in conjunction with years of failing to gain control of the world and struggling to defeat the superheroes who stand in his way, forces our villain to move back in with his family in suburban New Jersey in the midst of a mid-life crisis. In addition to this fun plot, the stop-motion action comedy series features a talented casts that boasts Aimee Garcia, Ben Schwartz, and Wendi McLendon-Covey, in addition to Fumero and Oswalt.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Fumero’s professional on-screen career began with a bang back in 2004 when she earned the role of Adriana Cramer in ABC soap opera One Life to Live, in which she acted until 2011, appearing in over 200 episodes throughout that time. From there, Fumero had guest or recurring roles in shows like All My Children, Important Things with Demetri MartinGossip GirlThe MentalistRoyal PainsCSI: NY, and Men at Work, and also acted in feature films like 2007 thriller Descent, 2009 comedy I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, and 2013 family drama The House That Jack Built before earning the role that took her career to new heights.

Starting in 2013, Fumero began starring as Amy Santiago in beloved (and Golden Globe-winning!) NBC sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She and Andy Samberg’s Jake Peralta make for an iconic duo that’s surrounded by an equally fantastic and hilarious cast, making this an unforgettable performance and show all around. After starting her work on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Fumero has gone on to appear in movies like 2017 drama DriverX, 2019 family comedy The Play Date, and 2019 thriller A Stone in the Water, as well as in shows like Hollywood Game NightHell’s KitchenThe $100,000 PyramidOne Day at a TimeElena of AvalorShe-Ra and the Princesses of PowerBig City Greens, and Room 104.
