‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Greg Germann Leaves After Four Seasons

After saying goodbye to both Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) and Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), Grey’s Anatomy is sending off another star for good. Last night’s episode featured the latest character exit, with Dr. Thomas Koracick (Greg Germann) leaving the show after four seasons, the The Hollywood Reporter reports.

Germann is the third series regular to leave the show during Season 17. Gianniotti left in March after his character was shockingly killed off, while both Germann and Williams were written off the medical drama on the May 20 episode. Germann first joined Grey’s Anatomy in Season 14 and was bumped up to a series regular last season. “To have worked with all the incredibly talented people involved with Grey’s over the past few years has been such a privilege. A big thank you to the fans as it has truly been a shared experience!” Germann said.

While his character was battling a serious case of Covid earlier this season, he thankfully recovered and continued his work at the hospital. In an epiphany on last night’s episode, Koracick decided to leave Grey Sloan Memorial and travel to Boston to help Avery run his family foundation. Next up for Germann post-Grey’s is the theater production of Herding Cats, a play that utilizes in-person and livestream performances.

Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff issued a statement Thursday confirming Germann’s exit from the show and hinting that we likely haven’t seen the last of his character. “Greg Germann is a comic genius and we are so lucky that he brought his talents to our show these last few years,” she said. “We will miss Greg terribly in the day to day — but we plan to see Tom Koracick again!”

While Grey’s Anatomy seems to be shedding its cast one-by-one this season, it’s not the end for the long-running drama just yet. ABC announced earlier this month that Grey’s Anatomy had been renewed for Season 18, with series star Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey) set to return along with Chandra Wilson (Bailey) and James Pickens Jr. (Richard).
