New Movies On Demand: ‘Four Good Days,’ ‘Georgetown,’ + More

Everyone loves films that are based on a true story, and this weekend, there are a lot of BOATS out there. Some of the most promising films that are new on VOD this week are Four Good Days, based on a magazine article titled “How’s Amanda?” about a drug addict named Amanda Wendler and her quest for sobriety, and Georgetown, a true story of high-society murder in Washington D.C.

And, though it’s based on a novel and not a true story, Eric Bana returns to his Aussie roots and accent in The Dry, a murder mystery in which he plays a cop who returns to his hometown for the funeral of a friend who is said to have killed his family before killing himself, and discovers that he’s wrapped up in an investigation to determine whether the deaths were actually a murder-suicide. While he’s there, he also starts looking into another death in the town that occurred 20 years prior.

These are just a few of the titles that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now!

Four Good Days

The titular “four good days” in the title of this film refer to the length of time that Mila Kunis’s character, Molly, must abstain from drugs before she’s able to get a shot that will make her body immune to the effects of opioids. During that time, Molly moves in with her mother, Deb, played by Glenn Close, and their estranged relationship becomes more tender at certain times, and more broken at others. Kunis transformed herself for the role of Molly, but it’s anybody’s guess whether her full-on Monster makeover will lead to awards-season triumphs. It’s certainly the right type of role for that.

Georgetown

Georgetown, directed by and starring Christoph Waltz, is based on the New York Times Magazine story about the duplicitous Albrecht Muth, a man who was convicted of killing his much-older wife, journalist Viola Drath. Names have been subtly changed, so here Waltz plays Ulrich Mott, who earns the suspicion of his wife’s daughter Amanda (played by Annette Bening). When his wife (Vanessa Redgrave) dies, Mott’s true identity — and motives behind their marriage — are brought to light. The film is darkly comic and suspenseful, and Waltz does what he does best, wringing laughs from serious subject matter.
