Missing Mystic Falls a little extra today? You’re not alone. It’s been nearly 12 whole years since the first episode of The Vampire Diaries hit The CW, meaning it’s also been a whopping four years since the show ended. Since the release, there have been a handful of spin-offs and dedicated fanbases birthed in honor of the series. The Vampire Diaries is currently streaming in its entirety on Netflix — but by this time, you may have watched the series one time too many. If you’re looking for a new series to sink your teeth into, we have recommendations.
The Vampire Diaries follows the life of Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), a newly-orphaned teenage girl who falls in love with a 162-year-old vampire named Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). Their relationship escalates with the return of Stefan’s older brother, Damon (Ian Somerhalder), who plans to bring back his lost love — who, coincidentally, looks exactly like Elena. Both brothers try to protect Elena amidst their other vampiric duties, and the entire mythology of their history is revealed as the show goes on.

'The Originals'
The Originals is one of the spin-offs on the Vampire Diaries. The series follows Klaus Mikaelson and the rest of the Mikaelson family, known as “The Originals” because they’re the first vampires to ever exist. Klaus returns to New Orleans to investigate rumors of a plot against him, realigning with old friends and battling old foes along the way.
'Legacies'
Mystic Falls looks a little different in Legacies, another spin-off of The Vampire Diaries. The show follows the new Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, which is home to Klaus Mikaelson’s daughter Hope and other young adults who are coming of age as wild supernatural beings. At the school, they’re trained to be the best versions of their supernatural selves, repressing villainous urges and warding off destructive forces.
'Fate: The Winx Saga'
Fate: The Winx Saga is Netflix’s spin-off of the famed Winx Club, which originally debuted on Nickelodeon. The new series follows Bloom Peters, a fairy with epic fire powers who enrolls at a magical boarding school called Alfea College. She shares a suite with Stella (a light fairy), Aisha (a water fairy), Terra (an earth fairy), and Musa (a mind fairy), and the five of them bond in order to learn more about each other’s pasts. Meanwhile, other threatening forces enter to harm the girls.
'Tidelands'
Tidelands follows Cal McTeer, a young woman who returns to her home in the small fishing village of Orphelin Bay after 10 years locked in juvenile detention. Upon her return to the village, she discovers a darker underworld shrouded in many mysteries — and she wants to unravel as many as possible. She infiltrates a commune of outcasts that abide in a hidden pocket of the bay, hoping to expose the wildest conspiracies with her new crew.
'Lucifer'
Lucifer follows the fallen angel, who has become bored and tired of his life in Hell. So, he decides to abandon his throne in the fiery pits and travels to Los Angeles, where he indulges in clubbing, alcohol, and women. Then, a murder takes place outside of his nightclub, and the murder awakens a new, unseen part of the demon that calls him back down to earth. He takes the killing as hope for his empathy and humanity, and begins to experience feelings he’s never felt before as he witnesses more death.
'Outer Banks'
Outer Banks is Netflix’s beachy seaside mystery series following a handful of teens on the hunt for missing treasure on the North Carolina Coast. John B is looking for his missing father with a slew of his friends when he realizes more is at stake — mainly, treasure, along with other goodies. He recruits his friends, but that’s not to say they don’t bring drama and romance along the way too. And, even better, Outer Banks has a new season set to release in just a few months.
'13 Reasons Why'
13 Reasons Why, based on the hit novel, follows Hannah Baker, a teenage girl who tragically commits suicide and leaves a puzzle in her wake. Before she passes away, Hannah records a series of tapes explaining why she chose to end her life, passing them around to the folks who hurt her over time. The series focuses on Clay, for the most part, a boy who she developed feelings for in a short period of time. The series navigates through flashbacks in Hannah’s life, into present-day with Clay listening to the tapes.
