‘Top Chef’: Watch Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein Invade the Kitchen in this Exclusive Clip

Top Chef: Portland is finally embracing the Oregon city’s hipster reputation this week with a Quickfire challenge presided over by none other than Portlandia stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein. In an exclusive clip from this week’s all-new episode of Top Chef Season 18, watch host Padma Lakshmi welcome the chefs into a Top Chef kitchen outfitted with vintage equipment like electric stoves and a Julia Child-approved pegboard of utensils. Their challenge? Create a delicious meal using the antique tools and hipster-approved ingredients like hemp oil and nut milk. Injecting a healthy dose of self-aware humor into the Quickfire? None other than the hilarious Armisen and Brownstein, themselves.

Tomorrow night’s episode of Top Chef picks up right after the shocking events of last week’s Restaurant Wars. The seven remaining chefs run into the Top Chef kitchen and immediate notice something’s amiss. “Am I stepping into a Julia Child…exhibit?” chef Byron Gomez jokes in the confessional.

Padma Lakshmi soon welcomes Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein into the kitchen to soften the blow of the challenge. “Your next judges wanted to feel a little more at home,” Lakshmi said, “and have outfitted the Top Chef kitchen with some of the finest vintage equipment.”

After Armisen and Brownstein do a little bit over who gets to talk first about their Top Chef fandom — with Armisen quipping that he was only cutting in first to share why Brownstein loves the show — the rules of the challenge are set. The chefs will have to create a meal using hipster ingredients with only electric stoves as their choice of heat. If that first part made you cringe, it’s nothing compared to the utter frustration that second caveat sparked.

“I don’t like it! I like fire,” chef Maria Mazon vents in confessional. “I have matches tattooed on my arm for God’s sake.”

So which chef will come out on top in this Portland-inspired hipster challenge? You’ll have to tune into Top Chef: Portland tomorrow to find out.

An all-new episode of Top Chef: Portland will premiere on Bravo on Thursday, May 27 at 8 PM ET.
