Jack Black Remembers Late ‘School of Rock’ Star Kevin Clark: “Devastating News”

After Kevin Clark passed away in a tragic bike accident yesterday (May 26), his School of Rock co-stars took to Instagram to remember the late actor/performer. Clark, who was 32, played Freddy Jones (aka Spazzy McGee) in Richard Linklater’s 2003 comedy.

Jack Black starred as Dewey Finn in School of Rock, Freddy’s wild teacher who trained him to rock out on the drums. According to Clark, he only got the child acting role because he could play the drums. Black shared a collage of two images from their old School of Rock days, adding some touching notes about their time together.

“Devastating news,” Black wrote in his Instagram caption. “Kevin is gone. Way too soon. Beautiful soul. So many great memories. Heartbroken. Sending love to his family and the whole School of Rock community.”

Just a couple of years ago, Clark caught up with Jack Black for an impromptu School of Rock reunion in Chicago. Clark’s band, Dreadwolf, was playing a set in the area, and Black reached out to watch them perform. Clark offered Black a piece of Dreadwolf merch, and the actor immediately sported it at the concert.

Miranda Cosgrove, who played classmate Summer Hathaway in School of Rock and has since gone on to star in shows like Drake & Josh and iCarly, also shared a collection of old photos in remembrance of Clark.

“Stunned and saddened by this news today,” Cosgrove wrote. “The world lost an amazing soul. I’ll always remember your spirit and how kind you were to me. I’ll never forget all the memories. You’ll always be missed Kevin.”

Clark was cycling around the Northwest Side of Chicago early Wednesday morning when he was fatally struck by a car, according to the police. A 20-year-old woman was driving the car that struck Clark was not charged, but issued with a citation.

The child actor was best known for his role in School of Rock, and did not pursue a career in acting after his role as Freddy Jones. Instead, he pursued music with his band, Dreadwolf, still keeping in touch with some of his School of Rock co-stars.
