Cillian Murphy Honors ‘Peaky Blinders’ Co-Star Helen McCrory: “I Was In Awe About How She Lived Her Life”

Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy had some touching words to say in remembrance of his late co-star Helen McCrory, who died of cancer last month. In a recent interview with The Guardian to promote the upcoming A Quiet Place 2, the British actor opened up about working with McCrory on the set of the hit BBC crime drama.

“Oh, man,” Murphy said, sighing fondly when a reporter asked him about McCrory. “She was my closest colleague on Peaky, and one of the finest actors I’ve ever worked opposite.”
McCrory was 52 when she passed away. Her husband Damian Lewis confirmed the news via Twitter, citing the cause was a “heroic battle against cancer.” Murphy worked with the late actress for around seven years, spanning from Seasons 1 to 5 on the series.

“Any material, any scene … she made it special,” Murphy continued. “She could do power and vulnerability, one after the other. She was just so cool and fun, and had such compassion for everyone she met. I was kind of in awe about how she lived her life – the way she balanced her work and her family so beautifully.”
The latest season of Peaky Blinders, Season 6, has recently begun filming. The series has yet to confirm whether or not McCrory will be featured in the upcoming episodes. Directory Anthony Byrne recently shared an Instagram shot remembering McRory as the production set out to complete Season 6.
“Today was beautiful and strange and sad and surreal,” Byrne wrote in his post. “We found ourselves in the most beautiful environment. The sun beating down on us and it felt OK. It was incredible but not surprising to read the many tributes and articles dedicated to Helen over the weekend.”
