‘Outlander’ Season 6: Starz Teases First Look and Release Date

Happy World Outlander day to every superfan of the Starz series! In honor of today’s celebrations, the channel has announced the release schedule for the upcoming sixth season of the drama series. Season 6 of Outlander, which has been shortened to eight episodes, will debut in early 2022. Get ready for new episodes starring Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton and more in their beloved roles.

The exact premiere date has yet to be announced, but the first episode of Outlander‘s sixth season will be a 90-minute long return to the saga. Starz has announced that production is set to wrap this week on the series.

“We are excited to get into the editing room to work on bringing the fans one step closer to reuniting with the family back on Fraser’s Ridge,” said Matthew B. Roberts, Outlander‘s showrunner, in a statement. “Filming in 2021 has presented an unprecedented set of challenges which led us to the decision to truncate the season in order to bring the fans the most vibrant and dynamic season as soon as possible. Dinna fash, we will then film an extended season seven with 16 episodes next year as life returns to normalcy.”

The fifth season of Outlander debuted over a year ago, releasing new episodes from February to May of 2020, as the pandemic raged. Filming did not begin on the sixth season until around a year after Season 5 hit screens, beginning in February, 2021.

“We are committed to telling the story fully with gripping and bold storylines in the upcoming eight-episode season that introduces viewers to new characters including Tom, Allan and Malva Christie (Mark Lewis-Jones, Alexander Vlahos and Jessica Reynolds) who create tension on the Ridge,” said Christina Davis, President of Original Programming for Starz. “We can’t wait for viewers to see the exciting sixth season that reflects the STARZ #TakeTheLead initiative through unapologetic storytelling and powerful female characters.”

The sixth season of Outlander will be based on the sixth book in the Outlander series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. The series will pick up where Season 5 left off, a continuation of Jamie and Claire’s fight to protect their loved ones in a colonial America. Per Starz, Season 6 of Outlander “explores what happens when there is disharmony and division among the inhabitants of the home you’ve created: when you become an outsider, or an ‘outlander,’ so to speak, marginalized and rejected in your own home.”
