Jimmy Kimmel Mocks “Insane” Trump for Thinking He’ll Be Reinstated After Arizona Audit

Jimmy Kimmel is shutting down former president Donald Trump‘s rumored hopes of moving back into the White House. On last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the late night host responded to reports that Trump is eyeing a return to the presidency this summer despite losing the 2020 election, The Daily Beast reports.

“According to Maggie Haberman, who is a writer for the New York Times, Trump believes that he is going to be reinstated as President in August after Arizona finishes that cyber ninja ‘audit’ of the election they’re doing,” Kimmel explained, pointing to Haberman’s June 1 Tweet in which the reporter clarified, “no, that isn’t how it works,” but she was “simply sharing the information.”

Kimmel gleefully reported Trump’s delusion, which he deemed “so completely insane and dumb, it just has to be true, it just has to be.” He joked, “We’ll know for sure once we hear [Trump] deny it.”

Earlier in his monologue, Kimmel bashed Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, for his recent appearance at a Dallas QAnon conference in which he supported the idea of a coup in the U.S., similar to what happened in Myanmar earlier this year when the military overthrew the government.

“Trump’s old pardon pal Michael Flynn, a man who admitted to lying to the FBI, who went to prison for it, appeared at what was essentially QAnon-Con this weekend, where he quite plainly supported an idea from a man in the crowd who asked, ‘Why don’t we just overthrow the government?'” Kimmel said.

Before playing a clip of Flynn telling a participant that such a coup “should happen here,” Kimmel reminded his viewers, “Keep in mind the man on stage answering this question is a former general and national security adviser,” dubbing Flynn “General Lie-senhower.”

After Flynn’s comments began making the rounds online, he tried to backtrack on Telegram, Kimmel explained. “There is NO reason whatsoever for any coup in America, and I do not and have not at any time called for any action of that sort,” Flynn wrote. Kimmel retorted, “Except for this weekend when you did it on video and the times when you did it leading up to January 6. Maybe that’s the Bill Gates microchip making him say that.”

Jimmy Kimmel Live airs weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC. Watch the full clip from last night’s show in the video above.
