WWE Cuts Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, and Others: “This Was a Complete Left Field For Me”

WWE has announced another shocking round of cuts with some huge names. Wrestlers Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, Lana, Murphy, Ruby Riott, and Santana Garrett have all been released, WWE announced today.

“WWE wishes them the best in all of their future endeavors,” the company said in their statement.

Most recently, WWE released a handful of wrestlers on April 15, including Samoa Joe, Billie Kay, Peyton Royce, and a handful of other large names. Vince McMahon’s company, which is known to release wrestlers after WrestleMania in April, has been selecting April 15 as their day to cut folks for the past couple of years. This day (June 2), however, is new for the company.

On Smackdown, WWE had been spending plenty of airtime on vignettes of Black’s revitalized character, which culminated in a major comeback after nearly seven months. On May 21, Black returned to WWE to battle Big E.

“Im gathering my thoughts as this was a complete left field for me as obviously we just started the dark father character but this was it,” Black, whose real name is Tom Budgen, wrote on Twitter, “thank you so much WWE universe for allowing me to create and give you small bits of myself.”

“Thank you, @wwe,” Garrett posted on Instagram after the news, sharing a montage video of her time with WWE. “Peace.. Love & #HeadbandPower.”

Strowman, whose real name is Adam Scherr, was in a major pay-per-view fight just over two weeks ago. He competed in a triple threat match for the WWE championship against Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre. Lana was a part of a tag team with Naomi, and her husband, Rusev, was cut by WWE last year at the beginning of the pandemic.
