Jimmy Kimmel Gleefully Rips Trump for Shutting Down His Blog Over Dismal Visitor Stats

After mocking Donald Trump‘s hopes of being reinstated earlier this week, Jimmy Kimmel is back with another dig at the former president. On last night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the late night host tore into Trump’s “interesting move” to shut down his recently launched blog, The Daily Beast reports.

The page, titled “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump,” went up just 29 days ago, but has already been scrubbed from Trump’s website as of yesterday. Senior aide Jason Miller told CNBC the section “will not be returning,” and explained, “It was just auxiliary to the broader efforts we have and are working on.”

Kimmel had a good laugh in response to Trump’s now-shuttered blog. “I know, it’s a real punch in the gut for me too,” he joked. “He was very excited about this blog for the first month after he was banned on Twitter, and now he’s just abandoning it. It’s a move he calls ‘The Eric.'”

He went on to explain that Trump shuttered the blog because of pitiful visitor stats. “According to one of his advisers, they learned that the reason he shut it down is because people in the media have been mocking how few people were visiting his site,” Kimmel said, proposing a suggestion for where Trump can take his ideas next. “From now on, he’s just gonna write bitchy little notes on the dry-erase board at the Mar-a-Lago omelet station. More people will see them,” he joked.

Trump was officially banned from major social media platforms — including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram — following the Jan. 6 insurrection after violating platform guidelines by creating “an environment where a serious risk of violence was possible,” per Facebook. He launched “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump” May 4 in response to the ban, but struggled to attract the same audience as the former president’s once popular Twitter account.

On May 11, just a week after the blog launched, NBC News reported “From the Desk of Donald J. Trump” had only attracted “a little over 212,000 engagements.” In comparison, just one of Trump’s tweets was “liked and retweeted hundreds of thousands of times” on average, according to NBC.
