‘RHOBH’ Star Erika Jayne and Tom Girardi’s Legal Troubles Subject of New Hulu Doc

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Erika ‘Jayne’ Girardi may be known as a Bravo star, but she’s about to the subject of another TV project. The reality TV fixture is the focus of an upcoming ABC News documentary titled The Housewife and the Hustler, Variety reports. The doc, which will premiere on Hulu, is set to explore Girardi’s legal troubles with her lawyer husband Tom, with whom she split from in November 2020.

“ABC News Originals goes inside the real-life legal drama facing the husband of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member Erika Jayne, legal titan Tom Girardi,” an official description for the special teases. “Once considered a crusader of justice, Girardi now stands accused of embezzling from the victims he swore to protect.”

Both Erika and Tom are wrapped up in scandal following a lawsuit filed against them by Edelson PC. The couple is being accused of “allegedly embezzling settlement funds meant to help the victims of Lion Air Flight 610,” according to Page Six, and the lawsuit alleges their divorce could be staged. “While Erika publicly filed for divorce this month, on information and belief, that ‘divorce’ is simply a sham attempt to fraudulently protect Tom’s and Erika’s money from those that seek to collect on debts owed by Tom and his law firm GK,” the lawsuit states.

The Housewife and the Hustler will feature voicemails, court records and a never-before-aired deposition tape of Tom, per People. The upcoming doc will also include commentary legal experts like O.J. Simpson prosecutor Chris Darden, along with Real Housewives alum like The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Danielle Staub and Dana Wilkey, a former friend of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

Despite her legal troubles, Girardi has continued to appear on RHOBH and is currently starring in the latest season, which is now airing on Bravo. “It’s unwise,” Zev Shechtman, a bankruptcy attorney from the Los Angeles firm Danning Gill, told Variety. “Anything that she does that flaunts her wealth, which is ostensibly everything she does, will be evidence against her. All of the assets, all the property that she has, is going to be a target. Everything that she does will be subject to scrutiny. And it’s not scrutiny in the tabloid sense, it’s scrutiny in the liability sense.”

The Housewife and the Hustler premieres on Hulu June 14. Watch the teaser in the video above.
