Josh Duhamel Jokes He Was “Dumped by Netflix” After ‘Jupiter’s Legacy’ Cancellation

After his latest show was canceled, Josh Duhamel is ready for a rebound. The actor, whose Netflix series Jupiter’s Legacy came to an end after just one season, reacted to Wednesday’s cancelation news with a shirtless selfie, joking he’d been “dumped” after his show was canceled, E! News reports.

“When you get dumped by @netflix and have to put yourself back out there…. #sexysantasummer,” Duhamel captioned his Instagram. He added, “What’s up, @hulu ?”

Duhamel led the Netflix original series as Sheldon Sampson / The Utopian, the creator of a team of superheroes called the Union of Justice. Although Jupiter’s Legacy proved to be a hit at the streamer — pulling in bigger viewership numbers than The Handmaid’s Tale during its premiere week, according to Nielsen stats — Netflix called it quits after just one season.

Creator Mark Millar announced the show was coming to an end earlier this week, explaining that Jupiter’s Legacy would be turned into an anthology series with the next chapter, titled Supercrooks, shifting the focus to the villains of the show.

While he poked fun at the cancellation in his latest post, Duhamel shared some more serious thoughts in an earlier Instagram, where he first reacted to the news of Jupiter’s Legacy coming to an end. “It’s never easy to hear that a project you cared about/ believed in/ put so much into is ending prematurely. It was a challenge and a privilege to dive into the character of Sheldon/ Utopian,” Duhamel wrote yesterday. “I got to do things as an actor that took me to places I had never been.”

Clearly, there are no hard feelings between the Jupiter’s Legacy star and the streamer. Duhamel made sure to thank Netflix in his post, writing, “A big thank you to @netflix for giving us this opportunity and an even bigger thank you to the fans – you took us to the #1 spot around the world and we stayed there for almost 2 weeks. Your support of the show means everything.”

Duhamel’s Jupiter’s Legacy costar Leslie Bibb shared her own post on Instagram after the show was canceled, writing, “MY BAES…i stand with my brothers in arms @joshduhamel @bendanielsss @mattlanter @mikewadeactor…this union is something i believed in and i will miss wholeheartedly…love you friends… xolb #jupiterslegacy.”

While we won’t be getting any new episodes, you can still watch the first season of Jupiter’s Legacy as many times as you like. Episodes 1 through 8 are now streaming on Netflix.
