Summer is finally here, and you know what that means—it’s time to lock yourself in a dark room and deliberately torture your mind and heart with jump scares!

In other words, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It is now playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max, and it’s the latest installment in the horror franchise known for its haunted dolls and demonic nuns. This time around, paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (played by actors Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga respectively) take on cursed children—in particular, a cursed young man who committed murder while possessed by a demon.

While The Devil Made Me Do It is the eighth installment in the Conjuring franchise—which includes spin-offs like Annabelle, The Nun, and The Curse of La Llorona—it is being billed as The Conjuring 3. If you want to catch up on the Conjuring universe before you watch this new movie, but don’t have much time, you’d be fine to just watch The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2.
