Showtime Crashes for Many Customers During Anticipated Mayweather-Paul Fight

Some fans looking to watch last night’s boxing match between Floyd Mayweather and Logan Paul ran into trouble not long after the fight began. The Wrap reports that yesterday’s highly anticipated event was interrupted by Showtime outages, with the network experiencing widespread shutdowns just as viewers were starting to watch all of the action go down.

The fight, which began at 8/7c, was delayed for some users up to an hour and 15 minutes in. Showtime acknowledged the outage in a statement to The Wrap last night. “We are aware that some customers have been having trouble accessing tonight’s Pay Per View event on SHOWTIME. We are working diligently to resolve the issue and will redress customers appropriately,” a Showtime spokesperson said.

The company also shared a message on Twitter telling customers they were “aware of an issue impacting tonight’s PPV event as well as the SHOWTIME and SHOWTIME Anytime apps,” and instructing users to return to the Showtime Twitter for any updates.

While missing out on any live content — especially a sports event — can be frustrating, Showtime customers did not have the option to go back and catch whatever part of the fight they may have missed. Showtime’s pay-per-view feature does not allow viewers to rewind or start content from the beginning, so when the event went offline, there was no catching back up on what went down in the ring between the veteran boxer and the influencer.

With Showtime down last night, many viewers called for a refund of the $50 they spent to watch the fight on pay-per-view.

Although Showtime was down, the network teamed up with Apple to stream coverage of the fight, which was also available to watch live through the Fanmio app.

Regardless of whether they could tune in for the whole fight or not, plenty of fans were still left disappointed at the end of the evening when no winner was announced. After eight rounds, the fight came to a close without a knockout, and without judges, no winner was crowned after the event.
