Ever since it premiered on Netflix back in 2018, Élite has been at the forefront of telling steamy stories about rich and sexy teens getting into trouble. Murder, incest, threeways, extortion, cancer, drugs, and heartache…Élite has it all, and then some. But before Élite Season 4 premieres on Netflix this Friday, the show has one more new trick up its sleeve. Élite Short Stories — starting with today’s installment, Élite Short Stories: Guzmán Caye Rebe — are micro mini-series that show us what are favorite kids from Las Encinas have been getting up to during their summer break. Each edition of Élite Short Stories tells a complete three-episode story in under 30 minutes and, if Élite Short Stories: Guzmán Caye Rebe is any indication, each will be worth your time.
Élite is Spanish soap opera set at the prestigious Las Encinas high school, an academic institution that welcomes the nation’s titular elite. In Season 1, three working class kids found themselves pushed into this world after their public high school collapsed. Immediately, Samuel (Itzan Escamilla), Nadia (Mina El Hammani), and Christian (Miguel Herrán) are pulled into an intoxicating web of sex, secrets, and danger. Élite Season 1 focused on a murder mystery. In fact, every season of Élite uses a serious crime — a murder, a missing person’s case, etc. — as a framework for its storytelling*. Ironically the best part of Élite isn’t the master mystery, but all the smaller moments of character development. That’s something that Élite Short Stories seems to be reveling in.
Élite Short Stories: Guzmán Caye Rebe tells the story of a house party gone horribly wrong. Rich girl Rebe (Claudia Salas) wants to throw a rager in her mother’s new house, but her Las Encinas classmates fail to show up in force. While we hear that fan favorites Ander (Arón Piper) and Omar (Omar Ayuso) arrived and left, only lovelorn Guzmán (Miguel Bernardeau) and grieving, ostracized Cayetana (Georgina Amorós) attend the party. Rebe serves the mismatched teens cake laced with mushrooms and delights in watching their emotional trips, but things go south with Guzmán discovers that Rebe’s mother is hoarding cocaine in the house. For Rebe, this is devastating as she thought her drug-dealing actress mother was going straight. For all three of our heroes, though, it puts them right smack in a deadly situation.
What’s great about Élite Short Stories: Guzmán Caye Rebe is that it not only catches hardcore Élite fans up on where these characters are mentally going into Season 4, but it’s also just great storytelling. You don’t necessarily need to be entrenched in the world of Élite to understand the emotional heft of certain revelations or to appreciate Georgian Amorós’s truly outstanding comic performance. These little mini-series also feel like a narrative reboot for Élite which had begun to feel slightly bogged down in the drama of the past. As Rebe herself remarks to Guzmán, with a huge bunch of the core cast not returning, new alliances and cliques will have to form. And a few long-standing romances will have to be wrapped up or solidified going forward…

Élite Short Stories: Guzmán Caye Rebe premiered today, Monday, June 14, and a new installment will premiere every day leading up to Élite Season 4’s premiere on Friday. Tomorrow, we’ll find out what Guzmán’s lady love Nadia has been up to in Élite Short Stories: Nadia Guzmán. On Wednesday, we’ll see exactly what about Omar and Ander’s friend bummed Rebe out so much in Élite Short Stories: Omar Ander Alexis. Finally, on Thursday, Samuel will make a wild declaration of his love for Carla (Ester Expósito) in Élite Short Stories: Carla Samuel.
The sexy murder teens of Las Encinas are back, folks! And honestly, they’ve never been bolder, cooler, or more fun to watch.
*Élite Short Stories: Guzmán Caye Rebe actually calls this out in a hilarious gag in Episode 3 when Rebe cries out, “Another murder. We’ll have to testify. I can’t take it anymore. We never learn!”
