‘Manifest’ Canceled: Will Netflix Save The Show?

After three years on NBC, the gripping drama Manifest is ending for good. The series, which first premiered in 2018, follows a group of passengers on a plane that lands safely years after a turbulent flight, but finds that the world has moved on after presuming them missing.

After the fan favorite show was canceled on a Season 3 cliffhanger, fans are calling to renew it with the “Save Manifest” campaign, which has taken off on social media just a day after the news broke that NBC would not be moving ahead with a fourth season.

Could Manifest come back for Season 4? Will Manifest move to Netflix, where it’s already streaming Seasons 1 and 2? Is Manifest canceled for good? Here’s what you need to know about what lies in store for the beloved drama.

IS MANIFEST CANCELED? WILL THERE BE A MANIFEST SEASON 4?

NBC officially canceled Manifest after three seasons. The news first broke yesterday evening (June 14), when it was confirmed by Deadline that the network would not be moving ahead with Season 4. While Manifest won’t be airing on NBC any longer, it is possible that the show could be picked up for Season 4 on another network or streamer.

WHY WAS MANIFEST CANCELED?

When the cancellation news broke last night, NBC did not provide a specific reason for why they were ending the show. In fact, Manifest was “the highest-rated on linear among NBC’s four bubble shows [Debris, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, Manifest and Good Girls] by a wide margin, especially in total viewers,” according to Deadline.

Still, its No. 1 ranking didn’t translate into high viewership numbers. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Manifest initially debuted to about 10 million viewers during its first season on NBC, but dropped to around three million viewers per episode by Season 3.

Manifest creator Jeff Rake addressed the show’s fans, called “Manifesters,” in a message on Twitter early this morning, writing, “I’m devastated by NBC’s decision to cancel us. That we’ve been shut down in the middle is a gut punch to say the least. Hoping to find a new home. You the fans deserve an ending to your story. Thanks for the love shown to me, cast, and crew.” He closed out his message with the hashtag #savemanifest.

WHERE CAN I WATCH MANIFEST?

While Manifest may be ending on NBC, that doesn’t mean the show is going away entirely. You can still watch Manifest Seasons 1 and 2 on Netflix, where the show is currently streaming. The third and final season of Manifest is available to watch on Peacock, NBC’s free streaming service.

WILL MANIFEST MOVE TO NETFLIX?

Right now, there are no official plans for Manifest to continue on Netflix, but Rake’s message means the show could have a future outside of NBC. And fans have been quick to note that the first two seasons of Manifest have been listed as the number one series on the platform for the past few days, making Netflix a seeming prospect for a potential pickup. Think how Lucifer, another Warner Bros. produced show, moved from FOX to Netflix, and you’ve got the idea.

That said, though the creator told fans he’s “hoping to find a new home” for the show, he did not mention any specific streaming platforms or networks. Rake has previously said he envisioned six seasons of the show, so stay tuned for any major developments about the future of Manifest!
