‘American Psycho,’ ‘Heat,’ and More Classics Get the Pixar Treatment in TikTok’s New Filter Challenge

Pixar has a new film coming out this weekend (Luca) — but TikTok has an entirely different idea of “new Pixar films.” Snapchat’s animated face filter, aka the “Pixar filter,” has been making the rounds on social media this week, allowing users to transform their face into a Disney-Esque character. Think big eyes, airbrushed skin, and puffy cheeks. On top of the filter’s popularity, users have repurposed the filter into a challenge: use the filter on totally inappropriate movies to Pixar-ize them.

We may not be getting an R-rated Pixar film anytime soon, but TikTok has created a potential solution with this challenge. At the moment, the most popular entry is the animated version of Wanderlust. Take a peek at Paul Rudd’s first Pixar role, where he rattles off completely un-Pixar quotes:

Or check out this Twitter entry for Heat, in which fresh-faced Al Pacino discusses rear ends:

One TikTok user who goes by the username @genericclapton has started a series of the #PixarFilterChallenge videos with a hilarious theme: “R-Rated Pixar films that nobody really asked for.” Ever wanted to see Christian Bale’s murderous Patrick Bateman as a Woody the Cowboy lookalike? Wonder if he gets a reservation at Dorsia in the Pixar reboot of American Psycho:

As if Tommy Wiseau’s The Room wasn’t funny enough already, the animated version just makes the bizarre flick even wilder. “Oh, hi Mark,” sounds even funnier when it’s out of an animated mouth:

And it’s not just films — TikTok users have also taken to TV shows like Schitt’s Creek. Dan Levy is nearly unrecognizable as the Pixar-fied David Rose:

Or, less ambitious, what about live-action Disney films that could use the animated treatment? Always wanted an animated Mary Poppins? Well, now you do:

Scroll through the #PixarFilterChallenge on TikTok to see other entries in the trend and make your own. The filter is easy to use, too. Just download or open Snapchat and follow these instructions:

  • Tap the smiley-face icon next to the camera button
  • Tap “explore” on the bottom right
  • Search “cartoon” and select the “cartoon” filter
  • Put your favorite live-action film on your TV or laptop and record with the filter

It’s that easy to join the #PixarFilterChallenge. For reference, films with records for their frequent use of swear words include The Wolf of Wall Street and Uncut Gems — just as a suggestion. Get Pixar-izing!
