Disney+ Will Premiere All Original Series on Wednesdays

Wednesday is the new Friday—at least where Disney+ originals are concerned. As revealed via The Hollywood Reporter, Disney+ is running with the massive success of Loki’s premiere (the most-watched premiere in Disney+ history) and has decided that mid-week premieres are the future for all original series. The shift from new episodes dropping on Fridays to being released on Wednesdays will take place rather quickly, going into effect for the streamer’s July premieres.

This means that Disney+ will potentially be able to own Wednesday the way that movie releases and Netflix comparatively own Fridays. However, original Disney+ features will continue to drop on Fridays. This move will allow audiences to have a whole 48 hours to watch new Disney+ episodes, before entire seasons of Netflix originals drop on Fridays. Good luck?

Loki can now be viewed as a bit of a test run for this shift. It was originally slated to premiere on Friday, June 11, but it had its premiere date moved up by two days in early May. The Wednesday premiere led to big turnout for the series and, well, now we’re gonna have “Disney Wednesdays” from now on.

This also means that, like Loki, a few shows will have different premiere dates than previously announced. However unlike Loki, most of those shows will have later premiere dates than previously announced. Here’s a schedule of all the shifted Disney+ original series premieres.

  • Monsters at Work from July 2 to July 7
  • Turner & Hooch from July 16 to July 21
  • Behind the Attraction from July 16 to July 21
  • Chip ‘n’ Dale: Park Life from July 23 to July 28
  • Turning the Tables with Robin Roberts from July 30 to July 28
  • The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse batch 2 from July 30 to July 28
  • Growing Up Animal from Aug. 20 to Aug. 18
  • Short Circuit Season 2 from July 30 to Aug. 4

Loki continues to release new episodes every Wednesday on Disney+; and soon, it won’t be alone.
