New Movies On Demand: ‘The Misfits,’ ‘The Space Between,’ ‘Night Walk’ + More

There are some actors whose IMDb pages are so long you can’t help but marvel at their longevity. Pierce Brosnan and Kelsey Grammer both got their start on film over 40 years ago – that’s one whole, cynical Gen Xer ago! And somehow they’re still both bankable stars whose names can carry a film. I mean, sure, they’re both white guys so they already have a leg up (said the cynical Gen Xer), but the fact that they’re still going strong is impressive. The two men receive above the title billing in our top picks for new movies on VOD this week.

Brosnan stars in The Misfits as the leader of a group of charitable-minded, thieves who steal literal bars of gold from the uber-rich to give back to the poor, while Grammer makes a 180 from the erudite, stuffy type he’s played for so long in The Space Between, about an aging hippie auteur musician whose commercial days are behind him, but he insists on making quirky, weird noise and calling it music.

And then, while we’re speaking of men whose careers have surpassed all expectation, Mickey Rourke stars in not one but two films that are out this week. In Night Walk, a man (played by Sean Stone, son of Oliver) falsely imprisoned for the murder of his girlfriend seeks justice, and his fellow prisoner Rourke becomes a mentor to help expose the corrupt law enforcement that sent him behind bars. Rourke also stars in Take Back, an action flick co-starring Gillian White and Michael Jai White, where he plays a human trafficker who kidnaps a girl whose parents set out to find her (and kick ass along the way).

These are just a few of the titles that are available to watch on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, YouTube, and through your cable service this week. Check out what movies are available to buy or rent on demand now!

The Misfits

A handsome, debonaire thief teams with a rag-tag bunch of criminals to pull off an insanely huge robbery, all while trying to avoid being caught by their nemesis. The Misfits, which sounds just like Oceans 11 on the surface, is a modern take on the heist movie. Directed by Renny Harlin, the film sees Pierce Brosnan charm us, as always, despite his ill intentions. After escape prison and eluding the FBI, Richard Pace (Brosnan) teams with a group of small-time criminals, including Jamie Chung and Nick Cannon, to pull off a massive robbery of gold bars that are being held inside a prison. Though they’re up to no good, they see themselves as the good guys, robbing from the rich in order to give back to those less fortunate.

The Space Between

There are some big character choices happening in The Space Between, the new Kelsey Grammer film about a washed-up musician from the 1970’s whose label wants to drop him. Grammer plays Micky Adams, a singer who went from the height of fame to eccentric, reclusive artiste. He’s the anti-Frasier Crane, that’s for sure. William Fichtner – playing a perfectly smug industry-type that Paul W. Downs would be playing if he were 20 years older – plays the over-the-top Hollywood exec who is over Micky’s crazy antics and wants to drop him, so he sends the kid from the mailroom (Jackson White) to do the job for him. And that’s when the unlikely friendship between the long-haired auteur and the corporate lackey forms, and Micky becomes inspired to make music once again. It’s a little schlocky, but it’s also fun to see actors going this big and doing something you’ve never seen them do.
