Today is the second day of Prime Day 2021 and though many of you may be keeping an eye out for some of the millions of hugely discounted products exclusive to Amazon Prime members, there are also a ton of great deals on digital content as well.
First, the basics: If you’re already a Prime member, then you can start saving on all these sales immediately. But if you haven’t snapped up your membership yet, you may want to grab the 30-day free trial Amazon offers ($12.99/month or $119/year after that) to take advantage of the stunningly low prices available until June 22.
As a Decider reader, we know you’re interested in streaming the newest, most talked about movies. But maybe you haven’t quite cut the cord yet, and don’t have all the different subscriptions to watch all those great films. Not to worry, Amazon is here to help you catch up.
Head over to the Prime Video section for a great selection of the latest movies to rent during Prime Day 2021, many starting at just $2.99.
'Wrath of Man', $9.99 (save $10)
This new VOD action flick starring Jason Statham is directed by Guy Ritchie, one of the actor’s favored directors. And though you may have fond memories of the two from Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, this tour de force is an absolute “Streamer” according to Decider’s John Serba, who calls it a “good, solid, acceptably twisty action-thriller.” And now you can rent it for half the price.
'Promising Young Woman', $2.99 (save $3)
This Carey Mulligan vehicle is a masterclass in black comedy and won the best original screenplay award at the 93rd annual Academy Awards while Mulligan herself was nominated for Best Actress. Decider’s Anna Menta calls Promising Young Woman “a once in a decade triumph that will keep the conversation going for years to come.” And for less than three bucks, now’s your chance to get in on all the accolades.
'Nomadland', $2.99 (save $3)
This sweeping cinematic success anchored by Frances McDormand won a handful of awards at this year’s Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Cinematography and Best Director for Chloe Zhao. In Decider’s “Stream It or Skip It,” John Serba writes that McDormand’s performance in Nomadland is almost nonverbal. “She’s wonderful here. Thoughtful. Expressive. Saying so much but saying almost nothing. It’s a testament to McDormand’s range, her craft, that the two characters are nearly opposites, but still are very much in her wheelhouse.” If you haven’t had a chance to stream it, now you can catch this dreamy, meaningful, remarkable film for yourself.
'Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar', $2.99
Get ready to laugh with this surprisingly sweet, funny romp starring and co-written by Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo. If you’ve ever wanted to hear the words, “soul douche” spoken out loud, this is your chance. Embrace the wacky and join these two pals down in Florida for friendship, one-night stands and a few fabulous musical numbers—for less than the price of a frozen margarita.
