‘The View’: Meghan McCain Blames Biden White House for Vaccine Hesitancy

As America nears the Fourth of July mark and the nation doesn’t look much closer to its 70% vaccination goal, The View is unpacking why so many Americans still won’t get the coronavirus vaccine. And if you ask Meghan McCain, it’s because people are still afraid of getting a shot, and she’s placing the blame firmly on the White House.

“People are scared. I know some people who have extreme vaccine hesitancy,” the conservative co-host said. “Quite frankly, a lot of them are women are either pregnant or trying to get pregnant.” According to the CDC, the vaccine is safe for pregnant women, who are more likely to suffer a serious case of the virus than non-pregnant people.

While McCain admitted she isn’t a medical expert — saying, “I’m not a doctor [and] I don’t know anything about this” — she still insisted “there’s a lot of hesitancy” amongst pregnant women, placing blame on the White House for not directly addressing the demographic. “I have said this what feels like a million times on this show, it would be nice if someone in the White House put some kind of PSA together of people that women will listen to to help quell their anxieties,” she said.

McCain said she “empathized” with “people who are scared” of the vaccine, urging the White House to do more to “target” and “educate” people.  “This vaccine that’s relatively new,” she said, claiming that “people don’t have a lot of information about” the mRNA vaccines like Pfizer and Moderna.

“The fact that we’ve sort of given up on trying to reach out to demographics that may be ‘deplorable’ or ‘undesirable’ to people in the Biden White House, I think it’s a huge miss, and ultimately we all suffer,” McCain said.

Despite McCain’s complaints about how the Biden White House is handling vaccination efforts, the president has launched an extensive effort to get Americans vaccinated. Just yesterday, Biden issued a call for the country to get vaccinated as the Delta variant spreads, urging young people in particular to sign up for the shot. And earlier this month, the White House dubbed June a “national month of action,” which includes a nationwide vaccine tour featuring Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
