‘Too Hot to Handle’ Season 2 Kicks off with a Next-Level Lie That’s Oh So Delicious

Reality competition shows have a challenge of their own to rise to when it comes to second seasons: they have to anticipate how the show will change now that all the players know what’s up. Just look at the difference between Netflix’s The Circle Season 1 and Season 2. Totally unaware of how the game worked, the first cast went in and just, like, hung out and texted all day. Season 2, though? Those players packed a whole lot of strategy in their suitcases. So how the hell could Netflix do a second season of a show that no one who should be on the show would willingly audition for? Simple: You lie!

That’s exactly what Too Hot to Handle did to make Season 2 happen, and it takes the show to a new level of WTF-ery that you will love to hate watch. As far as premises go, Too Hot to Handle’s has to be the toughest for casting directors. This is a reality show that needs hot and horny singles—but the game is all about not hooking up. Not having sex, not grinding, not even kissing—and no self-gratification, either! What sexed-up sexpots would ever sign up to be on this show, especially when the prize money depends on avoiding the kind of fun you really want to have while at a tropical getaway?

So yeah—Too Hot to Handle got around this by just straight up lying to everyone who auditioned. Everyone in Season 2’s cast traveled to an extremely expensive resort ($10,000 per night, LOL) in Turks and Caicos under the assumption that they were starring on a new reality show all about getting drunk and having sex. The show? Parties in Paradise.

The THTH team didn’t stop there! They even went so far as to hire a fake host—comedian Jeff Dye—to welcome them to the island of debauchery.

Like in Season 1, the cast was kept in the dark for a whole day so that the cast (and us at home) get a taste of what this experience could be like if everyone’s libidos weren’t kept in check. There’s a lot of flirting and get-to-know-you-biblically games, all while the cast are dressed like slutty Party City models. And then Jeff Dye drops the hammer by introducing the cone.

You know the entire cast have Netflix accounts because they immediately know what this means. And let me tell you: watching a whole bunch of models, TikTok dancers, Instagram influencers, and one British stripper from Texas realize they’ve unknowingly checked themselves into reality TV’s relationship rehab is good trash TV. These reactions are like splurging at a Taco Bell Cantina and adding lava sauce to everything. It’s wrong but oh so right.

I didn’t know if Too Hot to Handle could get even guiltier pleasure-ier, and then they showed me a bunch of models having sexistential breakdowns while dressed like glittery, scantily-clad extras from Sweet Tooth. Thank you, Too Hot to Handle. Thank you for giving us this moment.

Let this be a lesson to every 20-something out there currently auditioning for any show with synonyms for “party” or “paradise” in the title: you may be asking for a plane ticket to the no-bone zone.
