Olivia Jade Calls Out ‘Gossip Girl’ Revival for College Admissions Scandal Jab

Olivia Jade isn’t letting the new Gossip Girl revival get away with any gossip of its own. The social media star called out the new HBO Max series for a line about her that was featured in its premiere episode, taking to TikTok to set the record straight, Entertainment Weekly reports.

During the scene that mentions Olivia Jade, Julien Calloway (Jordan Alexander) is reeling after seeing a photo of her half-sister with her boyfriend. Discussing the scandal on their way to school, Julien and her best friends Monet (Savannah Smith) and Luna La (Zion Moreno)  strategize how to best handle the photo.

After Monet says Julien is having “social media nightmare” that’s “bad for business,” Luna steps in a with a more optimistic take, telling her friend, “Everything will be fine so long as you win. Olivia Jade gained followers when her mom went to jail.”

According to Olivia Jade herself, that’s not the case. In a video posted on her TikTok account, she shakes her head and replies, “No, I didn’t,” as the scene plays out behind her. The famous influencer’s parents, Full House star Lori Loughlin and fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, were two of many wealthy parents charged in the college admissions scandal. The couple were accused of paying $500,000 to get Olivia Jade and her sister into the University of Southern California as rowing recruits.

Both spent time in jail for their involvement, with Loughlin sentenced to two months and Giannulli to five months. According to EW, Olivia Jade’s follower count did drop after the scandal, with her YouTube channel dipping from 1.9 million subscribers to 1.8 million currently.

Appearing in a Red Table Talk episode last December, Olivia Jade owned up to her role in the scandal, saying, “What happened was wrong, and I think every single person in my family can be like, ‘That was messed up. That was a big mistake.'” She added, “What’s so important to me is to learn from the mistake. Not to now be shamed and punished and never given a second chance.”
