Amazon Prime Video and IMDb TV to Stream Largest Collection of Norman Lear Content Ever

For the first time ever, every season of All in the Family, episodes of Maude, and a handful of Norman Lear‘s other classic TV series will be available to stream. Prime Video and IMDb TV, Amazon’s free streaming service, announced a licensing deal with Sony Pictures Television that is set to provide both streamers with a slew of series from the famed producer. This news marks the largest volume of Lear’s content ever made available on streaming services.

“Life is a collaboration,” Norman Lear said in a statement provided to Decider. “Writing, directing and producing films and television is perhaps the most collaborative work of all. In 2018, our Act III Productions sat with the team at Sony Pictures Television and formed a partnership to not only produce new content, but to bring a new awareness to my former Embassy library. That Sony found a home for that library with Prime Video/IMDb TV where new generations could find it, is the best present a man entering his 100th year can have.”

Beginning tomorrow (July 15), 227 and Diff’rent Strokes will be available to stream on Prime Video at no additional cost to their members. Other titles landing on Prime video include The JeffersonsSanford & Son, and Sanford, and they’re set to debut later this year. Also coming tomorrow are All in the FamilyGood TimesMaude, and One Day at a Time, which are all heading to IMDb TV.

“Norman Lear is a national treasure and his impact on television and popular culture is immeasurable,” Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios added. “We are so honored to bring his classic television series to Prime Video and IMDb TV so new audiences and a new generation can laugh, enjoy and be inspired, like so many of us have been throughout the years.”

Lear is nearly 99 years old, with a career that’s encompassed both the Golden Age and Streaming Era of television. The two will merge in this deal as his series head to streaming platforms. Most recently, Lear executive produced and co-hosted LIVE in Front of a Studio Audience… alongside Jimmy Kimmel. Two of his major shows — The Jeffersons and Good Times — were rebooted by Netflix. Lear has a total of six Emmy Awards, with over 15 nominations.
