Netflix has shut down filming for Bridgerton‘s Season 2 for the second time in a week after another person on set of the popular Shondaland period drama tested positive for COVID-19.
According to Deadline, the streamer has decided to pause production indefinitely until executive leadership at the platform along with the show’s producers can solidify a plan for its safe return amid the current Delta variant surge across the UK.
It has not been confirmed whether it was a cast or crew member who tested positive for the virus. The indefinite length of the hiatus, however, could either point to it being an actor or simply due to a second positive result emerging. Regardless, it has been reported that the individual is now in isolation.
Bridgerton was last suspended for 24 hours just this Thursday after a crew member tested positive. Production resumed on Friday, however that clearly didn’t last long.
Bridgerton tells the story of Julia Quinn‘s bestselling novels and is produced in the UK by Shondaland through the production vehicle Household Pictures. It utilizes some of the country’s grandest stately homes to depict a Regency-era setting.
Season 1 was a major hit, becoming Netflix’s most popular series to date after it was viewed by a record 82 million households around the world. The show also secured 12 Emmy nominations this week.
Netflix has been very stringent about testing on its shows and Bridgerton‘s positive tests are a reminder that the entertainment industry needs to remain vigilant as new variants find faster ways to spread around the world.
Nearly 52,000 people in England tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday and 49 people died. Although the virus is spreading due to variants, the UK government will continue to pushing forward with plans to reopen the country on Monday, removing all legal restrictions on social contact.
