Author R.L. Stine, best known his Goosebumps books for middle schoolers, is now being tapped for three new Netflix movies. The streaming service’s Fear Street Trilogy films are rated R and based on Stine’s more adult/teen Fear Street novels. Set in a fictional, accursed town called Shadyside, the fun, pulpy series was originally published in 1989, was restarted in 2005, and has sold over 80 million copies, all over the world.

The movies are not based on any specific books but more on the general narrative and tone of the novels. They also happen to come centuries apart from each other. The first installment, Fear Street Part 1: 1994, premiered in late June and shifts the time to the 1990’s, functioning as a throwback for Gen Z horror fans, according to Decider’s Anna Menta. Fear Street Part: 2 was available to stream on July 9, and the sequel works as a slasher film, ghost story and coming-of-age story rolled into one. Fear Street Part 3: 1666 concluded the trilogy of films when it was released on July 16.

Want to amplify your horrific fun this summer? Why not start with some of R.L. Stine’s Fear Street books, available on Amazon now. Some, like Fear Street The Beginning: The New Girl; The Surprise Party; The Overnight; Missing, are only available in paperback ($11.69) and folds the first four rebooted novels into one book.

Or, you can go old school and grab the very first Fear Street novel, 99 Fear Street, which is available as a paperback ($6) and Kindle ebook ($5). Other series within the Fear Street genre include the five books of Fear Street Cheerleaders, which may put anyone off trying out for the squad, and Fear Street Superchillers, which in itself engulfs the 9 books of the Silent Night series—with fun summer reading like Party Summer (starts at $10) and our personal fave, The Dead Lifeguard (starts at $10).

The one thing we can promise is that whichever Fear Street books you decide to read, you just can’t go wrong.
