‘In the Heights’ Leslie Grace to Star in HBO Max’s ‘Batgirl’

Leslie Grace is having quite a year. The singer and actress had a breakout moment when she starred as Nina in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s film adaptation of In The Heights, which premiered in theaters and on HBO Max in June. On the heels of that performance — her first in a major film — Grace has reportedly been cast as Barbara Gordon in Warner Bros. and DC Films’ upcoming Batgirl.

Grace, who has not yet commented on her new role, is a New York City native who has three Latin Grammy Award nominations. She released her first album in 2009 and gained mainstream attention after releasing a bilingual cover of the Shirelles’ “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” in 2012.

In the Batgirl film, Commissioner Jim Gordon’s daughter, Barbara Gordon, will assume the identity of Batgirl. The picture, which will debut exclusively on HBO Max, will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who previously directed Bad Boys For Life and are also set to direct Beverly Hills Cop 4. Christina Hodson, who previously wrote Brids of Prey for WB and DC, will write the script. No filming start date or other casting decisions have been announced yet, as well as whether Grace will sing and dance as Batgirl in the movie (though probably not).
