It doesn’t matter what the Rotten Tomatoes scores say, there will never not be hype for a new M. Night Shyamalan movie.
Shyamalan’s latest thriller, Old, is a surreal supernatural drama that has piqued the public’s interest with its bizarre premise. Inspired by the graphic novel Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Levy, the movie stars Gael García Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Eliza Scanlen, Thomasin McKenzie, Alex Wolff, Abbey Lee, Aaron Pierre, and more as a family who vacations on a tropical beach and (spoiler alert) finds themselves aging rapidly.
You might want to skip the trailer if you want to go in totally blind, but even if you’ve already seen it, don’t worry. It wouldn’t be a movie from M. Night Shyamalan—the filmmaker behind The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Village and more—if it didn’t come with a twist.
That said, you do want to watch this one ASAP to avoid spoilers. Here’s where to watch Old and when you can expect Old on streaming.
WHERE TO WATCH OLD ON STREAMING:
Old is now (finally) available to rent for $19.99 on demand. You can rent the film on platforms like iTunes, Vudu, Google Play, Microsoft, and more. Once you hit play on the film, you will have a 48-hour window to view it.
WILL OLD BE ON HBO MAX?
No. Old is a Universal movie, not a Warner Bros. movie, and therefore Old will not be streaming on HBO Max when it opens in theaters. While HBO Max—which is owned by Warner Media—has been the streaming home for Warner Bros. movies like Space Jam: A New Legacy, it will not be the streaming home for Old.
IS OLD ON NETFLIX?
No. Old the movie is not on Netflix, it likely will not be on Netflix any time soon. Earlier this month, Universal announced that beginning in 2022, all of the studio’s films will stream on Peacock no later than four months after the theatrical release. It’s unclear whether this will also apply to a 2021 movie like Old, but it seems more likely that the film will end up on Peacock—which is the NBC Universal streaming service—than on Netflix.
In the meantime, the best way to avoid the spoilers and see Old ASAP is to head over to your local movie theater.
