‘Black Widow’ Announces Early Digital Release Date

After a summer of action-packed excitement on the big screen and Disney+ Premier Access, Black Widow is backflipping into an early digital release this August. Disney has announced the Marvel movie will land on all major digital platforms on August 10, just two weeks away, with never-before-seen bonus footage including deleted scenes, a gag reel, and featurettes.

Scarlett Johansson finally received her highly-anticipated backstory with the Black Widow standalone film, which follows her as she confronts her dark past as a spy. The film also stars Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Rachel Weisz, introducing the chemically-charged Taskmaster as their evil foe.

The deleted scenes include several fights, chases, and a quick visit to the grocery store in the middle of nowhere. Other bonus features include featurettes of Johannsson and Pugh training for battle as a sister duo, as well as a tour around the world to see all of the spots where Black Widow filmed.

Black Widow soared at the box office, smashing pandemic records with an $87.8 million debut in theaters. The film was also released to Disney+’s Premier Access tier, meaning that Disney+ subscribers could watch the film by paying a one-time fee of $29.99 to stream the film from home. Other films like CruellaRaya and the Last Dragon, and Mulan have been released with the same strategy, but Black Widow is the first (and, at this time, it’s slated to be the only) MCU film to be released to Disney+ Premier Access.

Though it’ll be available on digital platforms, at this time, Disney has not announced if Black Widow will be available to stream for free on Disney+ earlier as well. Usually, Disney+ Premier Access films launch on the normal Disney+ platform three months after their initial release, meaning that Black Widow will be free beginning on October 6, 2021 — and if other Marvel films are any indication, should include all the bonus materials at no extra charge.
