Meghan McCain Lines up First Post-‘The View’ Gig: Executive Producing a Lifetime Movie, With Heather Locklear

As Meghan McCain‘s tenure on The View reaches its end, the talk show host has already found a follow-up gig. Working alongside star Heather Locklear, McCain will Executive Produce the upcoming Lifetime original movie Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff: The Kristine Carlson Story, based on author Kristine Carlson — and her best-selling book series. This film will mark the first project for McCain after her exit from the ABC talk show next month.

Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff follows Carlson’s battle with her mental health after her husband, Dr. Richard Carlson, passes away. Per Lifetime’s summary of the film, “Comfortable with living in Richard’s shadow, she is now forced to navigate the unchartered territory of becoming a single mom while dealing with pressure to become the new face and voice of the Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff brand. Looking deep inside herself, Kristine comes to understand the true essence of emotional authenticity and not sweating the small stuff, which leads to the resilience and confidence needed to carry on the legacy of the beloved brand.”

Locklear will star as Carlson alongside Jason MacDonald as her husband, Natasha Bure as her daughter Jazzy,  and Emily Rose as Richard’s booker, Brianna. Filming is set to begin soon in Nashville with the film premiering later this year on Lifetime.

On occasion, McCain has opened up about her life post-The View. Recently, she tweeted a hint about what might be next. “I pride myself on always taking big risks, rolling the dice, and making unpredictable life and career choices,” she wrote. “I’ve never fit in a box and I never will.”

Is a Lifetime movie starring Heather Locklear really the “big risk” she’s referring to? McCain has produced before, first with The Five on Fox News, followed by Outnumbered, Moms, and the documentary The Reunited States. She’s even nabbed a producer credit on a few episodes of The View, as well. A Lifetime movie is definitely a different sort of project for the pundit, but chances are she has a few more post-View ideas up her puffy sleeves.
