Back in March, it was announced that Ariana Grande would join NBC’s The Voice as a new coach alongside Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, and John Legend. Today, Grande has finally joined her fellow coaches in a new promo to tease the 21st season of the show.
In the spot, Grande, dressed in sequins and heels, ethereally floats down from on high to join Clarkson, Shelton and Legend as they cozily sit around a campfire (with forest ranger Carson Daly and his bear-friend nearby). When she’s asked to sing a song to the rest of the group, a custom, they explain, for the newbies, she belts out “Hopelessly Devoted,” the classic first sung by Olivia Newton-John in Grease, and shows off more than a few high notes.
Grande teased the promo yesterday on her Instagram, but it was hard to gauge her excitement level for the show. (Sarcasm.) “hello and screaming !!!!,” she wrote. “Cannot wait for everyone to see our first promo tomorrow for season 21 of @nbcthevoice !!! it’s ….. the most ridiculous and fun. i adore these humans so much and am already an emotional wreck worrying about saying goodbye to everyone the day of the finale and nothings even happened or aired yet. but yes ! tomorrow ! first promo. i love these people and this crew and my TEAM OH MY GOD and everything about this. i can’t say anything else. but… simply cannot wait til we get started.”
Grande replaces Nick Jonas as a coach, who spent two seasons on the show. Grande will make her debut on the show when The Voice premieres Monday, September 20 on NBC.
