The Last Letter From Your Lover ending explained: Do Jenny and Anthony end up together?

Spoiler alert: Jenny and Anthony do end up together in The Last Letter From Your Lover, it just takes these two lovebirds a very long time to get there. In the present-day, Ellie tracks down Anthony, who is now an old man played by Ben Cross. Anthony recalls the last time he saw his lover Jenny: At a Christmas market, four years after Jenny failed to meet him at the train station. They reconnect, and Jenny explains everything—that she had been on her way to meet Anthony, that she got in a car accident, that she had amnesia, and that she had been told Anthony was dead.

They sleep together, and Anthony begs Jenny to run away with him. But Jenny refuses—she has a two-year-old daughter now. Anthony says that Jenny should bring her daughter, but Jenny turns him down. But then, at the last minute, Jenny decides to take him up on that offer. She races to his office, with her daughter in tow… only to discover she is too late. Anthony is gone, having quit his job, and he thinks she’s stood him up, again.

Fast-forward back to the future, when Ellie meets with the present-day Jennifer Sterling, now played by Diana Kent. When Ellie learns that Jenny did go after Anthony, the journalist convinces Anthony to once again extend an invitation for Jenny to meet him in the park. This time, Jenny shows up. The two aging lovers embrace, presumably to live happily ever after, even if “ever after” isn’t for very much longer.

The Last Letter From Your Lover ending isn’t exactly happy, considering how many years were wasted, but at least Jenny and Anthony get there eventually.
